The QLD government have two grant programs worth looking at:

  1. Applications for the Accelerate Small Business Grant is closing 5pm 27 March 2018 – Grants of up to $10K

  2. The Business Growth Fund – a new program that kicks off on 28 March 2018 and provides upfront payments of $50K.

Accelerate Small Business Grant

The Queensland Government is providing matched funding of up to $10,000 (ex GST) for eligible businesses to engage a business mentor, coach, specialist consultant or an advisory board, for between 6 to 12 months. The grant received must be matched by a cash contribution from the participating business.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this grant the business must:

  • Have a minimum trading history of 3 years at the time of application;

  • Have a minimum turnover of $500,000 in the previous 12 months;

  • Less than 20 employees;

  • Have an Australian Business Number (ABN) and be registered for GST;

  • Have QLD headquarters or significant QLD presence;

  • Have competitive opportunities in domestic or international markets;

  • Be experiencing growth and have clearly defined high-growth and employment; opportunities; and

  • Declare if any owners or directors of the business are an undischarged bankrupt or insolvent.

High growth is generally considered to be a 20% increase in turnover or employment.

The Business Growth Fund

The Accelerate program will be replaced by this new, expanded program called the Business Growth Fund. Under the new program, funding of up to $50,000 (ex GST) may be provided to eligible businesses to purchase and implement specialised equipment or services to enable business growth.

Eligible Equipment

  • Production equipment to meet otherwise unachievable growth demand;

  • Advanced digital equipment and systems (e.g. 3D printers, scientific equipment or medical devices); or

  • Advanced logistics systems and equipment.

Eligible Services

  • Engage business mentors, coaches, consultants or advisors to provide advice (e.g. on business structures and governance, systems improvement, export and commercial negotiations);

  • Intellectual property (IP) advice;

  • Feasibility studies; or

  • Engage an advisory board.

The equipment or service must have a direct link to increasing employment or a business growth strategy.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this grant, the business must:

  • Have a minimum trading history of 3 years at the time of application;

  • Have a minimum turnover of $500,000 for the last financial year;

  • Have fewer than 50 employees at the time of applying for the grant;

  • Have an Australian Business Number (ABN) and be registered for GST;

  • Have Queensland headquarters;

  • Have competitive opportunities in domestic or international markets;

  • Be experiencing growth and have clearly defined high-growth and employment opportunities in Queensland; and

  • Not be insolvent or have owners/directors that are an undischarged bankrupt.

Your business must have the potential for high-growth within the next 2 years. High-growth is generally considered to be a 20% increase in turnover or employment.

Applications for the Business Growth Fund will open 28 March 2018.
